This week, we successfully completed the tilt mechanism for our solar tracking platform — but it wasn’t easy!
We faced a major challenge: the linear actuator couldn’t lift the solar panel when it was in its lowest position due to the weight and leverage. After a lot of testing and fine-tuning, our team found an effective solution — installing a gas spring to help support the panel’s weight.
With this addition, the actuator now moves the panel smoothly across its full range of motion. A big step forward for our project!
Also the structure for the 4 photo-resistors has been assembled on top of the solar panel.
The next step will be to create a mechanismo that will rotate the structure, completing the two axis solar tracker.
