The second version of our 3D printed enclosure is here, and it’s a significant step up from the first.
What Changed
The overall size was adjusted to better fit the final component layout. The biggest improvement is the opening mechanism, the box now opens from the side with a locking mechanism, making it easy to access the internals without compromising structural integrity.
The Details
We added dedicated openings for the GPS antenna, charging switch, LED, and button. The button was a particular design challenge, rather than leaving it recessed inside the box, we engineered a small mechanical extension that brings it all the way up to the top surface, making it accessible and intuitive to use without opening the enclosure.
The Result
It’s clean, functional, and purpose-built. Every cutout and feature has a reason. This is a box designed around the device, not the other way around.
The prototype is looking more like a finished product every day.
