With the electronics taking shape, it was time to think about how it all gets packaged. This week we completed the first design of the CosmoMeter prototype enclosure.
The Design
We kept it simple and functional. The enclosure was designed in OnShape and will be 3D printed. As with the perfboard, the priority was keeping the overall size as small as possible — the device needs to be compact enough to attach to an iPad and not get in the way of normal use.
The design is straightforward for now, focused on fitting the components correctly and keeping everything protected. There will likely be iterations as we move from design to physical prototype, but having a first version to work from is an important step.
What’s Next
The enclosure hasn’t been printed yet — that’s the next milestone. Once it’s in our hands we can start testing the fit, identifying any adjustments needed, and working towards a complete assembled prototype.
