As the first test node was assembled and the team got access to all 5 Arduino boards, we have now started developing the software that’s going to enable the evaluation of gait metrics from the data received from the IMU nodes via BLE.

We ordered the list of components that make up our first IMU test prototype, having opted for a breadboard implementation for this iteration, as the main purpose for now is to develop a robust sofware base and to gather data reliably before stepping into more complex processes on the perfboard.

We held a meeting via Teams with Carla Ganhão, a physiotherapist at Egaz Moniz Hospital. She expressed the Neurology department’s interest in our project, seeing it as a potential tool when working with patients with not only movement impairing pathologies, such as Parkinson’s Disease or normal pressure hydrocephalus, but neurological ones as well, such as CVAs.

Later today we also held another meeting with a physiotherapist from the Escola Superior de Saúde (ESS) at the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal, who provided valuable insights into the measurements required in real-world scenarios. We also talked about ways to differentiate our prototype from other products currently available on the market.
