Project Updates

Week 14 (Jun 9 - Jun 15)

Team Astroship
#project#progress#updates

This week began with the final biweekly meeting with our project advisor. During the meeting, we clarified doubts regarding the final presentation and the poster, both of which must be submitted this Monday, July 16th. Professor Luís Caldas emphasized the importance of having an engaging poster, with several images illustrating the work developed throughout the semester, and minimal text, in order to encourage the public at Eletro Day to interact more with us.

Thus, throughout the week, we worked on both the final presentation and the poster, following our advisor’s suggestions. In addition, we started editing the presentation video for our project, which was recorded last Friday at the factory of the company we partnered with during this project.

During our visit to the factory, we had the opportunity to test our prototype in a real-world context and assess the effectiveness of our solution. Furthermore, the company representatives we worked with shared the following feedback on our project:

“In addition to being a unique project in Portugal for this type of equipment, it is a real asset for any employer. In this sense, we are confident it will help promote a stronger culture of safety among our workers. It will also serve as both information and a warning system for them — especially when they are not using the equipment properly or when the noise exposure might go unnoticed.

We also appreciate all the commitment. It was a very interesting process and will undoubtedly help us improve occupational health and safety.”

All the practical tasks scheduled for this period were successfully completed. Every functionality of our prototype has been implemented: from the calibration of the noise detection algorithm to the user alert system using LEDs, the capacitive sensor, and the BLE connection between devices to signal the use of PPE. The 3D modeling was successfully completed, and the data reception and processing platform is also fully operational.

The team is now preparing for the exam period and will reunite a few days before Eletro Day to finalize preparations for the event.

With this post, we conclude our weekly updates on the project’s development. These past few months have been filled with hard work, challenges, and valuable learning experiences — both technical and personal — along with new and enriching experiences.

Factory Visit Prototype Testing

We would like to thank our project advisor, our industry partner, and everyone who has followed us on this journey. We invite you to visit us at Eletro Day, where you can see our prototype up close and interact with us.

On behalf of the entire team, thank you for following us this far. See you soon!
