About Us

Engineer Students

We are seniors in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). We were assigned this challenge as our final undergraduate project, which we will be working on during this last semester.

Portugal's Reality

It is estimated that there are approximately 160,000 people with visual impairments in our country, of whom more than 25,000 are completely blind. These figures highlight the urgent need to develop technological solutions to support mobility.

Our Goal

Our goal with this project is to explore a technological solution for people who are blind or have low vision. We aim to raise awareness of the challenges these individuals face in their daily lives.

Technological Solution

InVision uses AI-powered smart glasses, and voice-guided navigation to help visually impaired individuals navigate complex indoor environments — independently and confidently.

Smart Glasses with AI Vision

AI Vision & Object Detection

Core Technology

The glasses capture real-time images and send them to our AI model that identifies points of interest — stairs, elevators, exits, bathrooms — and communicates directions to the user via voice in under a second.

Voice-Guided Navigation

Accessibility

Step-by-step audio instructions guide the user to their chosen destination. The user simply asks — "Where are the stairs?" — and InVision responds with clear, natural-language directions.

Final Delivery & Exam Preparation

This week marks the final delivery of the project — today we submitted all the required materials, including the poster, the demonstration video, and the final version of our pitch deck. With exam preparation season beginning, we mark this week as the final week to do work for our project. It has been a rewarding journey and we are proud of everything we have built and achieved throughout this project.

Prototype Completed & Final Delivery Preparation

This week we finalized the prototype, completing all the remaining components and bringing the development phase to a close. In parallel, we advanced our communication materials in preparation for the final delivery, moving closer to a polished and complete submission.

Prototype Finalization & Deliverables Kick-off

This week, we are making our final push on the prototype development. Although our initial target completion date was the 26th, a slight delay means we are now in the final stretches of wrapping it up, specifically focusing on completing the input component. To streamline this final phase, tasks have been clearly distributed among all team members. Alongside the technical adjustments, we have officially kicked off work on our project deliverables, starting the production of both our exhibition poster and the promotional video. Finally, regarding the solution for the device’s external structure, we have begun developing a few promising design hypotheses, which we look forward to testing and refining in the coming days.
