Hugo is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department (DEI) of Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon in Portugal. He's also Vice-President and researcher at the Interactive Technologies Institute / LARSyS.
His research interests include Human-Computer Interaction and Accessibility, focusing on the craft and study of computing technologies that enable positive social change. His work cuts across multiple technologies from mobile and smart devices to social robots and artificial intelligence. His research methods extend mos from the discipline of Human-Computer Interaction and are informed by perspectives in Design Justice, Psychology, Sociology, and Disability Studies.
Hugo is broadly interested in research that tackles ambitious interdisciplinary problems in areas such as education, health, social exclusion, and accessibility. He conducts embedded research working with communities in designing and developing meaningful technologies.
Life is not all about work and one of the most import things to Hugo is his family and friends. Whenever he has some free time he enjoys spend it with them. He enjoys gardening, riding motorcycles, playing futsal, jogging, and reading.
