Hi, I’m Rita Martinho. I’m about to turn 18 and I’m in the first year of MEEC (MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering) at IST – Instituto Superior Técnico. My first impressions are quite positive: the course is demanding but interesting, the atmosphere is relaxed and cooperative, and the university seems to be well organized.
So far, the subjects I find most appealing are Digital Systems (a complete novelty for me), Linear Algebra and Portfolio (which provides a general overview of the different subjects and useful tools for the job market). I especially like lab classes because they are more practical.
I still don’t have a clear idea of the area in which I would like to work, but I am convinced that the course will give me a comprehensive training and, therefore, I expect to have many options.
During the course, I hope I can spend a period abroad, as part of the Erasmus program or something similar. This would be a win-win situation because contact with other cultures is very enriching and travelling is one of my favorite hobbies.
In parallel with the course at Técnico, I am also taking driving lessons, which unfortunately means less free time to dedicate to sports, especially bodyboard and gym, two activities that I find quite pleasant.
