Krav Maga

I thought it was relevant to get people to know more about a sport I am really keen in.

Krav Maga is not a very common sport here in Portugal, and so I would like to get people to know more about this sport, by means of this post.

This sport consist on a brutal self-defence system developed by hungarian-israeli Imi Lichtenfeld for the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). It is known for the efficient counter-attacks and real-world based situations taught.

Krav Maga is a wide combination of several other fighting arts, such as aikido, judo, boxing, wrestling and KAPAP, being focused mostly on close range, simple and efficient combat.  Funny enough, Krav Maga translates to “Contact Combat”, Krav meaning combat and Maga meaning contact.

Its a really balanced sport, an excellent way to exercise and definitely one of the best ways to learn selfdefense.

Curiously, Krav Maga is taught to federal agents in Mossad (Israel), FBI (USA) and soldiers in the Israeli military, it is also taught to New York’s SWAT teams, according to wikipedia. The version of Krav Maga that I practised and that is taught to civilians is, although, somewhat softer than the one taught to those military and police forces.

I strongly advise people to give Krav Maga a chance, it is a really fun way to exercise.
