MEETING

Group Meeting with our advisor and co-advisor

On April 21st, our team held a meeting to define and organize the master plan for our Forest Fire Detection IoT Mesh Network project.

During the session, we structured the project into phases, starting with the hardware architecture. We defined LoRa for mesh communication and MQTT over Wi-Fi for the backend.

We outlined the development plan, including IDE setup, required libraries, pinout mapping, and an optimized data payload structure for LoRa transmission.

We then discussed firmware development for both nodes and gateway, covering sensor integration, LoRaMesher setup, deep sleep power management, and data processing with JSON and MQTT.

The cloud infrastructure and dashboard were also defined, including a time-series database and real-time visualization of data and alerts.

We highlighted that only four weeks remain, making it urgent to gather materials and begin building the prototype. We also emphasized starting early on a creative idea for the final presentation video.

Finally, we defined a staged testing approach, from basic communication tests to full field validation, reinforcing the need for a working prototype.

Next Steps:

  • Set up the development environment and libraries;
  • Test sensors on the Heltec nodes;
  • Develop LoRa mesh communication;
  • Configure gateway and MQTT;
  • Build backend and dashboard;
  • Start system testing;
  • Gather materials and build prototype;
  • Begin planning the presentation video.
