As the MidPitch
presentation approached, our efforts were focused on preparing the narrative,
visuals, and technical breakdown of the project. We worked on aligning the technical depth of
the
presentation with clear storytelling, ensuring that we could communicate both the “why” and the
“how” of our project effectively.
A key part of this preparation involved finalizing the structure of our communication system, which we divided into three layers:
• Layer 1 for time-sensitive MAVLink control messages (e.g., arming, flight modes, waypoints) using SiK radios;
• Layer 2 for telemetry and environmental data over LoRa;
• Layer 3 for multimedia content like video, images, or audio depending on available bandwidth.
This layered design ensures
prioritization of critical messages, reduces data congestion, and increases resilience by
decoupling functionalities. We also created detailed flowcharts for message initialization,
parent selection via RSSI, route failover, and error recovery.
