Week 8
Materials Received and Development Phase Started
We are pleased to report that we have received all the necessary materials for our prototype and have officially begun the development phase of our project.
We also decided that we wanted to enhance our prototype functionalities, by using a temperature sensor. Although it is more tricky to get decent data, because it has to be positioned in the armpit, we think it will be feasible and will favor our project.
Materials received:
- Same materials as stated in week 5
- Temperature Sensor DS18B20
Regarding the development of the prototype, we started working and studying the communication via LoRa between the 2 controllers. Since it is not LoRaWAN, we don’t need to have access to any LoRa gateways, which is very good since there only exists one in IST and it is more complicated to work with.
How our LoRa peer-to-peer communication works:
- We are using LoRa in peer-to-peer (P2P) mode
- This means the two devices communicate directly, without the need for gateways or network infrastructure
- One controller sends data, and the other receives it using LoRa's long-range, low-power radio signal
- This approach simplifies communication and is ideal for our localized prototype setup
Over the coming days, we will mainly focus on the development of the prototype, which will soon allow us to start testing its core functionality.
