Our team interviewed an urgency nurse form the Santo André Hospital in Leiria, to ask him some questions about the current tracking of the paramedics health during long shifts and what we could do to better our solution. The meeting was made online, by Pedro Alves.
In short, he told us that working in urgency is very exhausting physically and mentally, and already experienced sevral cases of extreme fadigue, depression and burnout.
Regarding the current tracking of paramedics health during work, he told us that there are very few ways to track urgency professionals health risks, and the ones that exist have very few participation by the medical community.
Concerning the device itself, he said that it should track sudden physiological changes and that it could make the professional consider taking a break and rest, because stress and tension accumulation negatively affects physical and mental health in the long-term.
